I wasn’t ready to sign up for an adventure, or get involved in the ups and downs of a new couple.

I’m a mood reader.

My January was going pretty slowly. I took some time over the holidays – not sure if you noticed?

Then I started to feel like I was reading to post the review. I was analyzing the story, word choices, and mentally screenshotting quotes. It was taking the joy of reading out of the equation. 

So what did I do?

Went to Everand for a free smut-filled read. Nothing too heavy.

Just a little bondage and a new three-way.

You know, the usual.

Since the story was only about 3 hours long it really got right into it. 

A surprising friends to lovers trope.

Kaitlyn and Gordon met in college and opened a design and architecture company. Their best friends but obviously attracted to each other.

Kaitlyn signs Gordon up for a naked christmas calendar photoshoot, for charity. And to her great surprise he agrees, but makes her come for moral support. Naturally.

This photoshoot takes a turn when Gordon is tied up, literally, by a professional ‘Rigger”. A person who demonstrates and educates others in the act of bondage.

And they told us we could be anything in high school! I guess my guidance counselor forgot to mention this.

Gordon has a bit of a sexual awakening and is hard for the entire photoshoot. Which does not go unnoticed by Sean.

The rough grip of the ropes. The tall sexy man holding him in place. Kaitlyn.

Before he leaves Sean, the tall sexy Rigger, slips him his card.

Gordon can’t stop thinking of it and, in a bold turn of events, invites Kaitlyn over. As a favor to a friend.

Things get spicy, but in this short story it all just makes sense and falls into place. This isn’t a story where you question the character’s motives, it’s more like you’re expecting more to happen with every turn of the page.

Kaitlyn brings reinforcements in terms of tequila – my personal favorite.

But just a few shots for courage before she ties Gordon up with her scarves.

Gordon is a willing participant, sitting obediently while Kaitlyn takes on the dominant role. She’s a natural, a born leader, a woman who knows how to take control.

They don’t have sex but everything else happens. And they are left feeling a bit confused about their feelings for each other, and a mix of satisfaction and yearning to do it again.

Gordon is the instigator in this story and reaches out to Sean for more instructions. Sean is a professional and puts on shows and demonstrations for a living.

But it wouldn’t be a good story without a little attraction between the two.

Gordon and Kaitlyn are in their early thirties, meanwhile Sean is in his mid-forties. Not a huge deal, but even if you’re a well adjusted, emotionally mature early thirty year old, being mid-forties is just different.

I always say aging is a gift and I am enjoying the ride, but 18 year old Marissa, 25 year old Marissa, and even 30 year old Marissa are different people. So I can only imagine what 45 year old Marissa will be like. 

(Spoiler, she’s a fucking bad ass!)

Sean agrees to teach them the ropes – haha

But he doesn’t get his hopes up that he will be included, or needed after that.

Wrong!

Kaitlyn, our dom, wants him by her side. And Gordon wants him everywhere else.

The three have some spicy sex but Sean leaves.

Of course we read for the happy endings though and being a short story means the fall out was only a chapter long. Yet well written and still meaningful.

Kaitlyn brings them all back together and between the three of them they decide to explore a throuple-style relationship

Short. Spicy. HEA.

Just what I wanted it to be.
